Well, this is different. The Sierra Club doesn't just wander the greenbelts anymore. This Saturday, they are taking a 6.5 hour walk around downtown Oakland!
Here is scoop on this Art Deco hike:
This is an urban walk emphasizing architecture and history of downtown Oakland. Moderate-to-leisurely pace, but walk takes all afternoon ending about 5:30 pm near the twelfth street BART Station. Optional post-walk dinner at local restaurant. Rain cancels.
Bring: lunch (no good place to buy lunch); $1.50 for return to museum by BART; $ for optional post-hike dinner.
Meet: Meet at 11:00 am, at the 10th and Fallon entry to Oakland Museum next to nursing bear statue (one block from Lake Merritt BART).
Call: Since we're not members of the Sierra Club, we recommend calling the leader beforehand to confirm. He's Guy Mayes, and reached at (510) 522-1590.
