The Bay Bridge "S" curve into Yerba Buena Island doesn't register too deeply as we drive across the bridge. However when you are manning a big rig, the risk factor rises. Here's
raw footage of last night's smash.

What happened? Around 3:30 am, one big rig driver entered the curve too quickly and drove over the bridge. The Hayward man was delivering a load of pears into the city, and was driving only 50 MPH. That's really not very fast, but 10 MPH above speed limit and too fast for the "S" curve - and he was killed instantly, we hear.
For the unlucky few, there are accidents because there's not sufficient time to course correct as your load shifts. The speed limit seems to be no joke! While this accident resulted in the first "S" curve fatality, it likely won't be the last one.
