Wow, did you hear all the firecrackers and fireworks last night? It sounded a little like a war zone, at least for a few hours after the Jack London Square spectacular was over.
So much for law-abiding Oaklanders. This morning, I scoured the web but there wasn't too much news. On local TV, however, some folks had been interviewed late yesterday:
-- Gal, surrounded by family. This woman agreed to be interviewed, complete with her name shown on TV. She was shooting off some device and making sure she wasn't caught by the patrolling cops.
-- Guy, standing by his rockets. This man was asked why he's not just going to the Jack London show, and he kind of shrugged his shoulders.
-- Guy, off screen with contraband. This man wasn't visible, but the two roman candles he wanted to sell illegally were filmed as another example of what took place.
Meanwhile, the cops were simply overwhelmed and we felt really sorry for them. There was no way to pursue all the celebrants and their activities, and the law didn't seem to matter at all.
