We Don't See Him, Do You?

In case you didn't see this latest "miraculous sighting" of Jesus Christ, here is the photo for close-up examination.

Apparently Mary Jo Coady, in Methuen, MA sees Jesus Christ in the pattern on the bottom of the iron, which she firs… Continue

This Card Covers All...

We are bringing out the all-holidays, corny card...with a turkey hidden there. We still get cards in the mail from some friends, and always think about all that effort vs. this one-size-fits-all approach. Cheers!

Thanksgiving Should Be Off-Line

Thanksgiving should be an off-line holiday with real people. In the recession, it feels like we're supposed to honor family or friends even more. Creating some connection off-line and gathering for a couple hours sounds just right, and simple. We hope this holiday doesn't carry too many heavy obligations for you, but does bring up nice memories. Here are my associations and yours will differ! -- As kids, we went to the cousins and that was cool - because they lived on the Manhattan street whe… Continue

Donny, Donny, Donny

Well, I was very impressed with Donny Osmond tonight, on Dancing With The Stars! He's quite the performer, and makes Baby Boomers proud. It's like the 1970s again, when all the girls (like me) thought he was actually cool. We were into Osmonds, Cowsills and Jacksons. Oh there were solo acts too, but these groups made our 'tween memories. So this all-American guy with big teeth kind of represents us. Tonight it was great when the judges said Donny looked professional while dancing. And t… Continue

We're So Proud Of Green Day

There's something nice about seeing America's preference...for our East Bay alternate rockers, Green Day. They performed and also received an American Music Awards nod as "Favorite Alternative Rock Music Artist" this evening.

What's funny (at least to moi) is they were treated like the old guys! Well, we… Continue

Our Cops Have Taste

Forget the stereotypes about what Oakland Police eat. We live in the Bay Area, so our finest are lined up...and taking a breakfast break (we think) at the Egg Shop instead.

There's something about the precise parking jobs by the motorcycle crew, too. See how all the bikes are lined up, with helmets perched on the rear-view mirrors? It's great, huh. Continue

Tribune Tower's Still A Beauty

Today I had a meeting in Center-City, and it was getting dark as I was heading home. I looked up and saw the Tribune Tower, in all its glory - it's still a beauty!

The "S" Curve Problem

The Bay Bridge "S" curve into Yerba Buena Island doesn't register too deeply as we drive across the bridge. However when you are manning a big rig, the risk factor rises. Here's raw footage of last night's smash.

U.S. House Just Voted "Yea" On Health Care

Around 8:07pm, there were 218 yea votes recorded on the House's health care vote. This vote gives the overhaul much more momentum. The House bill translates into...a public insurance option and no more pre-existing conditions that block insurance. Actually this health care overhaul is only partly done now. We have to wait on a Senate's bill, and then whatever the House and Senate get to the U.S. President's desk later. Still it's interesting to see this pass...as a true squeaker. The vote was… Continue

Dellums, Clean As A Whistle

We don't expect our City Fathers (or Mothers) to have zero problems, but today's news about Mayor Ron Dellums and his unpaid income taxes is disheartening. Liens have always been something you could discover in the public records - even in the old, pre-internet days. What really matters is disclosure, rather than surprises. We think the mayor of any major city needs to be transparent, or at least upfront with their problems. Maybe Ron and Cynthia believed they could pay or settle prior to this… Continue

Pacific National Becomes US Bank

On Friday night, the bank holding company which owned Pacific National Bank failed. Based in San Francisco, the 18-branch PNC bank had been founded in 1887 and held some $1.9 billion in assets. Locally, the bank operated through the nice, rock-faced PNC branch on Mountain and Medau. While PNC is no more, its branches will now operate as U.S. Bank locations. Here's the announcement PNC posted to customers: On Friday, October 30, 2009, Pacific National Bank, San Francisco, CA was closed by tContinue

Bay Bridge Gargoyle Keeps Us Safe

That Darn Bay Bridge: Shut At 8pm

At 8pm tonight, the Oakland Bay Bridge is going to shut down completely. We don't know how long it will stay closed. Remember over Labor Day Weekend, when there was a I-Bar repair? Yup, there's fallout tonight...quite literally. Some giant metal cable and bracket snapped and fell down, in the fix area. At about 5:40pm, this cable whipped down and struck a westbound truck windshield. No one was hurt, but three vehicles were involved in the accident according to Trent Cross, California Highway P… Continue
