It's been 40 years since mankind made its very-first moon landing. Chabot Space & Science Center will have a special celebration this Saturday, in honor of this "one small step" anniversary.
Participate in an actual mission, which simulates all the different things that astronauts actually do! The missions take place at 1pm and 3pm...more below.
Also come hear about their telescope Rachel's special connection to Apollo 13 along with solar viewing and activities on the observatory deck, weather permitting of course.
For tots, there are Discovery Lab activities with astronaut costumes, starry time read-alongs and space crafts.
Join a Challenger Mission:
At the Challenger Learning Center, you will have a 60 minute opportunity to simulate a flight to the Moon and work as on-board astronauts and mission control specialists:
- Build a satellite
- Navigate the spacecraft
- Test hazardous materials via robotic arm
- Monitor on-board life support systems.
If an emergency occurs, you and your team will solve them in order to successfully complete the mission. These missions are open for everyone 8 years and up, accompanied by an adult throughout the entire mission.
More Info:
Sign-Up is required for the missions, which are scheduled for 1pm and 3pm. Also each mission costs $10/head (or $5/head for museum members), on top of regular admission. Please reach the box office at (510) 336-7373 for your mission seats.
